The first step to becoming a great leader is to recognize that you need help becoming a great leader. These are the steps I believe are necessary….

1. Have a clear vision.

2. Communicate your vision in terms that your volunteers can understand.

3. Love your volunteers more than your vision or leadership position. (This does not mean you have to settle for substandard performance, it just means you need to care about the volunteer as a person. Try to see them the way God does.)

4. Learn to swallow your pride before it swallows you.

I would suggest reading “Love is the Killer App” by Tim Sanders. If you would like to borrow it, I can load you a copy.
